Aluminum castings save weight when compared to other metals, but the advantages don’t end there. With its high fluidity, molten aluminum can easily flow into thin sections within the die. Because aluminum can reproduce intricate features and fine detail, it’s well-suited for the investment casting process.

Aluminum castings are often less expensive and more energy-efficient to finish. Aluminum can typically be machined much faster than ferrous castings, and has a lower melting point; ferrous alloys melt at 2,800 degrees Fahrenheit while aluminum melts at 1,100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Additionally, aluminum is corrosion-resistant, so it doesn’t need coating. If a particular finish is needed for aesthetic or performance reasons, choices include anodizing, powder coating, E-coating, and paint.
